Groom Squad

Groom Squad is an opportunity for juniors, intermediates and seniors to demonstrate their ability to work together in a safe and humane manner to groom and prepare a horse for show. This educational and fun contest allows members to develop communication, leadership and support skills with one another. It is open to 4-H members enrolled in the Horse program as well as provide an area of participation for the Horseless Horse members.

There are 2-3 contests held per yer, generally Spring and Summer at the Evergreen Equestrian Park with a county contest held during Fair. A Senior squad may qualify for State Fair in September.

How it’s Judged
The contest consists of three parts: a multiple choice exam, grooming and showmanship. Teams are judged on the exam, grooming, teamwork, equipment, safety and showmanship.

How to Join
Squads complete a contest entry form. Please note, there is a separate form for County fair which will be issued during Fair time.

*Please note: The qualifying Senior squad at The Evergreen Fair to represent Snohomish County at State Fair in September will need to review The Washington State Fair Groom Squad rules for differences before attending the State Contest.
