Equine Advancement Program
The 4-H Equine Advancement Program (Member Guide EM2790E) is designed as a checklist to build the competency and confidence of 4-H Horse members.
Each of the six steps has four sections: 4-H Knowledge; Horsemanship; Judging; and Equine Science.
Members may work on multiple steps at the same time.
Cloverbuds may work toward completion, however, they will need to wait until they are 8 years old to work on the Horsemanship Sections.
Steps 1-3 may be approved by the 4-H Club Leader or a designee at the club level. (Leader Guide EM4869E)
Steps 4-6 may only be approved by a county-authorized volunteer.
Telephone, videos or zoom meetings are all acceptable methods of submission in lieu of in-person demonstration.
After completing Step 1, the member will be awarded the Washington State Equine Advancement Patch plus the “Step 1” Patch.
As each Step is completed, the appropriate “Step” Patch will be awarded. When all 6 Steps are completed, a plaque or buckle (member’s choice) will be awarded.
